The Prevention and Treatment of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common malignancy, with over 5 million new cases diagnosed annually in the United States. Unlike many other cancers, the majority of skin cancers are largely preventable through straightforward behavioral changes, such as regular sunscreen use, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding tanning beds. This review examines strategies for skin cancer prevention via primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention, as well as treatment options. Additionally, we address the financial burden skin cancer imposes on the public health system, emphasizing the urgent need for patient education on cost-effective, accessible prevention measures.
