Abstract

Elite capture is a form of corruption when the “elite,” the subgroup of people with power over and access to crucial resources, make decisions that benefit themselves at the expense of the larger group’s interests. The elite, hence, “captures” resources and interests. This essay will examine elite capture in identity politics, sociopolitical movements, and government systems.
