This brief review paper explores the pioneering work of British-born Indian architect Laurie Baker. A prominent architect renowned for integrating vernacular techniques with sustainable design principles, Baker's approach challenges the conventional notion that grand, modern structures are the epitome of architectural success. The paper provides an introduction to his work and explores how Baker incorporated local construction methods through his use of materials and the positive impacts gleaned from this transition away from modern construction techniques.
